On June 21, Linda Daniel retires from Trinity Valley Community College after 38 years of service. We will miss her but also wish her well in retirement. Emily Currey, Carrie Currey, Samantha Ramos, Ms. Chad Pate, Tara Trimmins, Katie Schaefer and Laura Walters. The Gun Barrel City Masonic Youth Rainbow Girls installed new officers on June Samantha Ramos was installed as Worthy Advisor.

The following officers were also installed: Katie Schaefer Worthy Associate Advisor , Emily Currey Charity , Tara Trimmins Faith , and Laura Walters Religion. Tonya Currey serves as Mother Advisor. Texas State Senator Robert Nichols R-Jacksonville announced this week his intention to file for re-election to the Texas Senate. When I first ran, I pledged to work to make state government smaller, more efficient and more accountable. We have delivered on those promises, and I am excited to keep building on our record of success.

I began this column to share my efforts to stay mentally sharp. Last week I told you I had changed my focus just a little. I am also going to try to remember the importance of fully living and appreciating every day, whether I remember everything or not.

It started when I forgot to put gas in the car. I remembered it when it quit in the driveway of Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Athens.

Shelly and I had stopped by there on our way to a Master Gardener program and we just barely had time to get there. They said they could be there in two and a half hours.

So we begged a ride from a very gracious lady named Pat McNew. She took us to our meeting at the Senior Center near the Fairgrounds in her beautiful new car she just got.

I wrote down her name, thinking I might find an excuse to thank her in this column. Little did I know.

We nearly made it on time, which is how Shelly and I usually arrive—nearly on time. On June 20, Funeral services for Jack Allen, 88, of Malakoff are scheduled for 10 a. Thursday, June 22, at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Bro. Interment will follow at Post Oak Cemetery near Cross Roads.

Loyd Jackson Allen was born August 17, in Henderson County, Texas the son of Elijah Parker Allen and Willie Gertrude Rushing Allen.

He joined the United States Marine Corps in and was Honorably discharged in as a Corporal.

While serving our Country Jack married the love of his life Mildred Louise Turlington and they settled in the Malakoff area. He was a member of the Body of Christ and enjoyed reading the bible; having just finished reading it for the seventh time, he truly loved his relationship with the Lord.

His working career was spent in the Energy and Petroleum industry where he retired as an Assistant Superintendent at Enserch; serving over 40 years. Jack was a huge University of Texas Football fan and was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.
